The Simpler, The Better (Response Essay)

In nowadays technology-based era, I do forget the last time I written a note for someone. Well, maybe in highschool, but even though I remembered about the notes, I am pretty sure that it is not the type that you can make into a poem. But, for me the poem feels like bringing some kind of nostalgia.

I sense the apology in a quite interesting way; sincere, simple, but playful. In the end, my mind visualized someone who asked their significant other's forgiveness, trying to be innocent since they know they will be forgiven anyway. From what I see, that is why they chose to write a note instead, and not having a conversation directly. That is what I meant by bringing the good old times back, just like whenever I had a fight with my friends and too scared to talk, I would subtly buy their favorite food and wrote a simple “I'm sorry” in a sticky note. The thing is, this kind of apology on a single note is not the kind of communication you can have with everyone. I would write it for my bestfriend and close friends, different way for parents and colleagues. By giving notes, I get the feeling of the closeness of a relationship, but the playful one, just like my bestfriend and me.The problem is, nowaday's people like to do everything with the help of technology, so when we do 'manual' things, I get the sincere feeling of the efforts. Why don't we just use message, call, or any instant way? Because there is this guilty feeling, by waiting for the person read the note, we don't have to be the one who approach and said “hey, I made a mistake”, instead it tells “I know that I'm wrong, and now I can't face you with what I have done, so please forgive me and after that we're going to have a good time again”. I found it interesting, the way I can visualized the closeness of a relationship through a note, and at least that's what my memory told me to think about; the same feeling that I got whenever I have to apologize for my stupid act in the old days.

That's what I like from this poem, a simple communication; a simple apology which hoping for a simple understanding, in a fun and supportive relationship.

And so, it would be my response if I were the the 'you' on the poem:

I do
thought of
ignoring

but the
sweet
sugar-coated
donuts
from yesterday
solve it
all

I
guess
I'll get
more
next time
